Happy Earth Day, everybuddy!

In honor of Earth Day today, we’re following our furiend, Sparkle’s, lead and participating in the “My Blog is Carbon Neutral” initiative started by a site from Germany called Mach’s Grün, or “Make It Green” in English.  “Make It Green” is planting trees for free to erase the carbon footprint that blogs create.  We don’t know much about carbon footprints and we didn’t even know our blog had one, but we think planting trees is a good thing!!

“Make It Green” will plant one tree for every blog that participates in the “My Blog is Carbon Neutral” initiative.  The trees are being planted in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California by the “Arbor Day Foundation.”  Back in 2007, there were a couple of huge fires in the forest that destroyed 88,000 acres of trees!!  Whoa!!  That’s a whole lotta trees that were lost!!!  The goal is to help reforest 5,500 acres of the Plumas National Forest with 792,000 trees.  Planting began this week.

Now, here’s how you can participate in the “My Blog is Carbon Neutral” initiative and get a tree planted to help erase your blog’s carbon footprint.  All you gotta do is write a short blog post about this program, put a carbon neutral badge on your blog (you can choose from a bunch), and send the “Make It Green” people an email with a link to your blog post.

So c’mon!!  Make your blog carbon neutral, too!!!

  6. What a great initiative! Thanks for telling us about it and happy Earth Day!

  7. Just wanted to add that I’ve done this on my personal Musings blog. They base it on 15,000 visitors per month, and since that’s far and beyond what both my blogs get, I figure the one tree will cover both! 🙂

    Thanks again for this info!

  8. What a great post!!! We are planting some flowers Saturday and mom has some trees coming that she ordered from Wren’s fundraiser, so they’ll be planted when we get them. Happy Earth Day!

  17. great idea… we’ll check it out…

  18. That is a fine idea. We always worry about the carbon neutral thing because that seems to give people the idea that it’s okay to pollute or do things that aren’t Earth friendly–when in actuality we should do everything. We have planted a tree in our yard this year so we hope that is carbon neutral enough (and we are working on talking the Male into Solar Panels–he’s not thrilled because we are in Seattle but his neighbor says his actually save him some money)

  19. OMC! Pawsome! Trees are furry impawtant for da environment and dat was a whole lotta trees destroyed likes you said.

    Happy Earth Day!

  20. I do this and gives you a shout-out. Thanks for pointing this out!

  21. That’s so sad about that fire. I’m so glad they’re planting more and reforesting the forest! Ernie and Wally look so happy and content amongst their green.

  22. Yes, it sounds very interesting, but I don’t quite understand how blogs can create carbon? Or is it the computer itself that does this?

Of course, I’m all for planting trees. You will see that we have planted some in our back yard, and Dante is quite attached to them.

    Happy Earth Day to you!

  23. Beautiful pictures. Happy Earth Day

Momma and Daddy just bought a new tree — it’s called a bald cypress. It’s a BIG tree and they are having it planted next month when Daddy has a week off from ‘day hunting’.
