You guys! Today is Remember Me Thursday®…a day to inspire others to SEE THE LIGHT for pet adoption. Started in 2013 by the Helen Woodward Animal Center, Remember Me Thursday® is a world-wide event to get the entire world talking about the importance of pet adoption.
I AM A RESCUED CAT. That’s right. I ended up in a shelter when the first people that had me couldn’t keep me because their landlord didn’t allow pets. I know what it’s like to be stuck in a cage. Lemme tell you, it’s no fun. It’s cold, lonely…and really scary. You don’t know if you’re ever gonna get out of there. Oh sure, it’s better than being on the streets because there’s food and water available, but it’s nothing like having a forever home.
I’m one of the lucky ones…I was rescued. Though I spent over a month in the shelter before I made it out and into my wonderful home. But there are so many wonderful animals not as lucky as me. They sit in shelters waiting and waiting for their forever homes…and some sadly never make it out.
Right now, many shelters and rescues are filled to capacity. Some are turning away animals because they just can’t take one more in.
So how can you help these poor animals waiting in shelters and rescues, and get people to see the light for pet adoption? Adopting a shelter or rescue pet would be the best way. Though I know that’s not something everyone can do. But you can be a part of the Remember Me Thursday® Awareness Movement, and spread the word about the importance of pet adoption.
Today, tweet, tag, post and share on social media the life-saving significance of pet adoption. Let everyone know how important pet adoption is. Y’know…changing just one mind can save a life.
Did you adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue? Share their photo and adoption story on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) or Instagram. Their story may inspire others to see the light about the importance of pet adoption. Make sure to use the hashtags #RememberMeThursday and #SeeTheLight.
You can also enter the fun Remember Me Thursday® contest and win one of 3 fabulous prize packages that include cash, food and toys for your favorite shelter or rescue. Details about how to enter can be found on the Remember Me Thursday® contest page.
Let’s get the whole world talking about pet adoption and help others see the light about how important it is. Let’s honor the lost ones whose time ran out and bring awareness to those we can still help. Let’s make pet adoption from a shelter or rescue the FIRST option!

I am glad you got your great forever home, Ernie.
Ernie you have a wonderful rescue story and I know you are happy that you have had a happy forever home. We all wish the lonely pets in shelters could know the joy of a stable and happy home like we have!
Love and Hugs, Teddy
I was in a shelter also Ernie not as long as you. Aren’t we so blessed to have our forever home unlike some of the cats still waiting.x
Ernie, you are a great example of why people should adopt pets from shelters.
We’re so glad the Lady with the Yellow Hair found you, Ernie! We know you saved her, too.
I’m so glad you were adopted into such a loving home, Ernie! Adopting from shelters and rescues helps both the animals and the humans who gain wonderful pets this way. Except for our first few kitties decades ago, we’ve always adopted right off the roadsides, the doorstep, and city yards where ferals wander. We always checked to make sure they were not lost pets, and that no one was looking for them. I wasn’t able to do a post about this today, but I posted one I did in 2021 on Facebook pages.
I got rescued too. Actually twice. My first beans did it when I was a kitten. Then when I ran away mum rescued me from the shelter cage and going back to those first beans! I loves my home and mum now.
Good story Ernie. We are all rescued as well.
Oops, sorry, that was meant for the group, not as a reply.
Ernie, you are the coolest big-pawed housepanther on the island!
Rescued is our favorite breed.
It’s heartbreaking how overfilled shelters are right now because of the economy. We purr that everyone finds a forever home as wonderful as ours. –Mudpie
Great post! Thanks for shining the light. XO
It was meant to be Ernie and I’m so glad you were one of the special ones to find forever love!!!
Ernie, we are so glad you were adopted into such a loving forever home! Thank you for helping shine the light today, buddy. It’s super important that we do all we can to help the animals still waiting to find their happily ever afters.
We are so glad that you found the purrfect forever home, Ernie. And since we too know about life in a shelter, we sure hope peeps see that the furry ones there are as good or maybe even better than some petshop animal…though, well, they need homes, too…sigh…
You have found yourself a wonderful furrever home, Ernie and we’re happy you did 🙂 Extra Pawkisses for you and your wonderful family 🙂 ♥
