Timber!

You guys! You won’t believe what happened here a few days ago.

Ernie sitting on a chair

Last Sunday evening we had a bad storm. There was lots of rain and the wind was blowing hard. So hard that it blew the big tree in our front yard down!

Look at it! It came right outta the ground! That tree had to be at least 30 feet tall and well over 25 years old.

Fortunately it fell away from our house and just missed crushing our mailbox…so no damage there, thank cod. Funny thing is we never even heard it fall, and didn’t discover it until Monday morning. Now it’s clean up time.

It’s kinda sad that we lost this tree because it was the only big one we had in the front yard…but the dad said he would plant a new one as soon as he can. Of course, the new one won’t be as big as this one.

  1. That’s too bad, though it’s certainly a good thing it didn’t fall towards your house. There’s been lots of that around here, too. Between the saturated ground, strong winds and shallow roots, well, you know it’s gonna happen. Dad went out the other day after our most recent storm to check on the trails he’s been cutting and found 3 trees down across one of them. I swear, he lights up like a child when he gets to bring out the chainsaw.

    • Oh yeah…the dad was out there first thing with his chainsaw cutting branches. But the tree is too big for him to cut up himself so the tree guys are coming today to take care of it.

  2. Yep nothing scarier…and more sad than losing a tree. Mom had to sacrifice two on her own because of the house and nature did others. We are on the edge of a virtual forest.

  3. Wowzers…..it’s always sad to see a beautiful and healthy big tree come down but at least it kindly didn’t hit your house or mailbox. The storm came through here (Ida) yesterday and left a mess behind but fortunately no tornados like in Maryland. We had limbs down but no trees fortunately.

    Hugs, Teddy

  4. Wow, we’re glad it stayed away from your house and your mailbox.

  5. Ernie, that must have been such a surprise!
Tell your dad to plant more than one tree; trees are good!

  6. Holy moly Ernie…that was one might gust of wind to send that tree tumbling.
Thank goodness nuttin was crushed or damaged.
    Hugs Cecilia

  19. Oh, too bad that you lost such a big tree from your yard. Looks like those roots just snapped. You’re fortunate that it didn’t cause any damage. Hopefully the next tree will have strong roots and grow quickly.
