Hi everyone. It’s the Island Cat Mom. A couple of weeks ago, the Cat Writers’ Association announced the Certificate of Excellence winners in their 2020 Communications Contest.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Cat Writers’ Association (CWA), it’s a worldwide organization whose membership consists of writers, photographers, journalists, graphic designers, radio and television personalities, videographers, bloggers, illustrators and others all devoted to sharing information about what else…cats! Its goal is to improve the quality of information about cats for the general public and to inspire, educate and inform. Every year the CWA has a Communications contest where members…and non-members…submit their cat-related works to be judged in a number of different categories. These categories range from books to articles to photography to social media…and many more.
I had several entries in the contest and I am pleased and honored to have four of them receive Certificates of Excellence (COE).
There are a couple of reasons why these COEs I received are so special to me. Three of them were for photos that I submitted in the category “Photography: Single Image.” Now I don’t claim to be a good photographer. I’m the first one to admit, and I’m sure Ernie would agree, that my photographing skills need some work. Most of the photos I take for the blog are with my iPhone and they aren’t always the best. But sometimes I get lucky…so winning COEs for these photos is quite satisfying.
Here are the three photos I submitted that won COEs.
“A Girlcat and Her Mousie”
“Mr. Big Eyes”
“Playtime” is one of a series of photos that I took for a blog post entitled “Tied Up.” I submitted the post in the category of “Written Article: Entertainment” and it too won a COE. You can see the blog post by clicking HERE.
The other reason why these COEs are so special to me is that three of the entries featured my beautiful green-eyed girl, Zoey. I miss that girl every single day. Receiving COEs for work that featured her is a tribute to her memory.
These four are now in the running for the coveted MUSE Medallion Award in their respective categories. The MUSE winners will be announced at the CWA Awards Banquet which, like last year, will be held virtually in October. I don’t expect to win a MUSE…I’ve seen the other entries and they are SO good. Receiving these COEs is victory enough for me.
I want to thank the CWA judges for recognizing me with these COEs. But most of all, I want to thank all of you…our friends and readers. Thanks for visiting our blog…and for your support. The last couple of years have been difficult ones for me with losing both Wally and Zoey, so your support means the world to me…and keeps me wanting to share more with you.
