Hey guys. It’s Memorial Day Weekend here in the U.S. of A. Did you know that today, May 30, is actually the real Memorial Day? That’s right! In 1888, Major General John A. Logan declared May 30 as Memorial Day…a day to decorate war veterans’ graves with flowers. May 30 was chosen because it was thought most flowers would be in bloom by then. It wasn’t until 1971 that the U.S. Congress made Memorial Day a national holiday for remembering and honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives protecting our country so we can be free. It was decided to hold it on the last Monday in the month of May. So that’s why Memorial Day is being celebrated tomorrow, May 31.
Not only is Memorial Day a day of remembrance, some consider it the unofficial start of summer. And I declare it the BEGINNING OF BARBECUE SEASON! Though like I said the other day, I don’t know why I get so excited about barbecue…I’ve never had any. Well, maybe that’s why I get all excited…because I’ve never had it… and I’m hoping that this may be the year that I get a taste of that tangy goodness.
Do you think if I give the mom this demure, sad-eyed look she’ll feel sorry for me and let me have a little taste of barbecue?? Yeah, I don’t think so either…but a cat can try, can’t he??
If you’re celebrating Memorial Day…I hope you have a good one…and that you get to have some barbecue. Maybe you could send me the leftovers…please?
Oh…by the way…I’m using this as my selfie for today.
