Hey guys! Here it is…the end of May already…and you know what that means, don’tcha? Barbecue season is about to begin! Y’know, I don’t know why I get so excited about barbecue…I’ve never had any. But I keep hoping…
The end of the month also means that it’s time for Pet Photo Fails…the blog hop hosted by our friends, Melissa and Mudpie over at Melissa’s Mochas, Mysteries & Meows. By now you all know how this works…all you gotta do is post a blooper photo of your pet…one of those pictures that just didn’t turn out right and would normally end up in the recycle bin.
If you remember…last month I told you how important lighting is for a good picture, and I shared bloopers of when there’s not enough light. This time I wanna show you what happens when there’s too much light.
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in our sunroom. Yeah, the mom finally cleared out all the cobwebs and cleaned it up. She’s been taking pictures of me napping in there. BUT…that sunroom lives up to its name…it gets a lot of afternoon sun…which means a lot of light.
As this photo fail demonstrates…
Nice hangover, right? But look at me…I’m totally washed out! Oh well…this could have been a good picture if someone had been paying attention to the lighting.
But all is not lost…she did play around a little…and managed to get this one right.
See the difference? And she didn’t even wake me during the process…thank cod.
So when you’re taking pictures remember to consider the lighting…whether there’s too much or not enough…otherwise you might end up with a bunch of photo fails.

Oh Ernie, there’s nothing wrong with that photo. You could say it was just a hazy day inside. Or fog. Or smoke. Regardless, as long as we can see you it’s all good, right?
We think your overhang photo is great but your second one is much better.
The Florida Furkids
LOVE the overhang…would be good I admit, to see it more clearly.
Oh, well, that’s an issue each night when THEY are watching TV and mama sees me looking photographable on the opposite couch and she starts to take a pic and then papa suggests lighting and then mama says no I like the romantic low ight and then sometimes he turns on the light without asking and the pic is great, haha but mostly they are low light sultry shots.
Low light, high light, Ernie you are always good looking!
It was good that mom got a good shot without waking you up. She’s smart that way.
Have a purrfect day and weekend. My best to your mom. ♥
Hey Ern! You even look great in the “washed out” photo…….Humans like to wear “washed out” jeans, so what’s wrong with a washed out photo??? Huh????
Hugs, Teddy
Pawsome photo fail and advice on how to fix it Ernie )
Naturally I was happy to see that pawsome picture of you in all your black glory!
Purrs, Julie
You look comfy no matter the lighting Ernie!
I think you could get away with the first picture by calling it “Hanging out in the fog”
I see what you mean about the light in the first picture but I like it of you anyway, Ernie! I have to contend with a lot of strong sunlight here too, and the kitties like to bask in it.The second picture is very cool too!
Hidey Ho Ernie…
I like both photos. However the lighting does give your furs such a sheen. I like your wicker table too
Hugs Cecilia
Yeah, and sometimes I just shoot some photos, hoping that there will be something worth using, Ernie!
Ernie brofur Toby also says Dad messes up the lighting a LOT with his photos. He says just because he is black it should not be washed out so it can show the texture and tone that is his handsome self
Those are way too cute to be considered photo fails. XO
Only the first one is a fail.
Our mom is not good with lighting. As you can see from our last few Instagram photos.
dood !!!! was ewe sleepin like that in fotoz one….ore just checkin out de floor !!!!
YOWZER!!!!! 🙂 ♥♥
Lighting is important and my bloopers demonstrate that too. Looks like some cat is hangin’ five in the blooper.
The first one may have been a fail, but we can still see how relaxed you are.
I think the most important thing we learned here is that she didn’t wake you up to get these photos. 🙂
Mee-yow Ernie there was so much lite you look sorta misty inn yore ferst foto.
Butt you look snazzy inn yore seckond foto 😉
Hansum man cat!!
**purrss** BellaDharma an ((huggiess)) LadyMew
I think she more than made up for the blooper photo!
We always have a lighting problem! (It’s as good an excuse as any.)
I enjoy seeing all your photos Ernie.
Practice makes perfect.
Us black cats are hard to photograph if the light is not purrfect, your mom did a great job in the second picture. Purrs, Zorro
My human worries about glare a lot. Hey, if that’s the biggest thing someone has to worry about, life can’t be too bad, can it?
I have failed many times when the light source is in front of the camera.
A lot of our fails are way worse!
Ernie, your fail would be a decent photo for our Mom! We are ever so lucky that our human brother Alex is a great photographer.
Well, we think you look great in every kind of light, Ernie!
Our human loves the first photo of the totally relaxed hang-over, Not really a fail really but snapped through either a ‘veil’ or ‘much needed to clean lens’! 😀 Purrs and hugs!
I kinda like the washed out one.. MOL They are both great pictures!
We have the hardest time with light at our house, it’s so dark! and with the lights on it gets all weird and shadowy.. I have to admit though, that my iphone takes much much better pictures than the actual camera now.. Even in low light. So much so that the camera is starting to gather dust, MOL
I love having lots of windows, but it does make photo taking difficult! I don’t know how to get rid of that washed-out look!
