Swan Song

Hi guys. Y’know…I’m thankful that I live in such a great place. Living here on the river, I get to see a lot of cool wildlife.

Like the swans. Yep, they have returned. The mom told me that swans typically come back to the same place every year to nest.

So I’m pretty sure these two are the same ones that were here last year and the year before that.

And they’ve built their nest in the exact same spot as last year, too. It was fun watching them build it. I hope it’s high enough out of the water so it doesn’t get wet.

The mother swan sits in the nest most of the time and the father swims around chasing away the geese if they get too close. Y’know…swans are really protective!

Now it’s a waiting game to see when the little swans will appear. The mom did a little research to find out how long that might be, and Google said it takes 2-3 weeks just for the mother swan to lay all the eggs and then another 6 weeks before they hatch.

So I’ll be watching…and waiting.

  3. Wow Ernie – that’s a VERY cool thing to be able to watch – and wait to see. After the babies are born you can watch them learning to paddle around and HOPEFULLY all of them will be safe from any predators. What a FUN thing for you to do.

    Hugs, Teddy

  4. Oh I can’t wait to see them, and maybe riding on their mom’s back. I wonder if the father’s share those rides with the babies?

  5. Wow, you do live in a wonderful place Ernie, and thanks for sharing the swans with us, keep us updated – I can’t wait to see the little ones!

  7. What a nice view you have Ernie. years ago a coworker was jogging around a trail on a lake.

  9. Ernie! We are thankful you have such great burd TV! We get to see geese and ducks on the river, but they don’t nest, so we don’t get to see the babies until they can fly! You are one lucky guy! Thanks so much for visiting us and sharing your burd TV. We hope you have a marvellously happy day!

  10. Gosh Ernie you’re so lucky to be able to watch live Swan Tv. Mom saw baby Swans signers I think on tv and I was a bit miffed how she made all these sounds which I thought was only for me. Hugs and Purrs.
