Hi everyone. Island Cat Mom here. Last Saturday night, the Cat Writers’ Association held its annual awards ceremony. Because the CWA annual in-person conference was cancelled this year due to Covid-19, the event…called “From Glammies to Jammies Virtual Award Ceremony”…was held on-line through Zoom and Facebook Live. There were 66 Muse Medallion Awards and 20 Special Awards handed out during the course of the evening for the best cat-related articles, short stories, books, poetry, videos, blogs, photographs and podcasts.

CWA Certificate of Excellence

Being a CWA Certificate of Excellence recipient, our blog was in the running for a Muse Award in the Website/Blog: Humor/Entertainment category. I say “our blog” because even though I may be the chief writer and photo-taker, Ernie and Zoey (and Wally, in memoriam) are the inspiration and the most important part of our team. Without them, there would be no blog.

We didn’t win the coveted Muse Award. But that’s okay…I didn’t expect to win. I am proud and honored to have been awarded the Certificate of Excellence for our blog. The Muse Award went to Rachel Loehner and her blog, Three Chatty Cats…and it is well deserved.

One of the things the CWA does at all of its conferences is a fundraiser for a shelter or rescue. This year’s spotlight rescue is Tabby’s Place Cat Sanctuary located in Ringoes, NJ. The fundraiser is being handled a bit differently this time, though. And everyone, not just CWA members, can participate. If you make a donation to Tabby’s Place, you will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of many fabulous prizes donated by the event’s sponsors. There’s still time to make a donation as the drawing will not take place until August 16, 2020 when the donation check is presented to Tabby’s Place. Click HERE if you’d like to make a donation and be entered into the drawing.

Even though we all couldn’t be physically together for the Awards Ceremony, it was a lot of fun to watch and cheer on my fellow cat writers. It was also fun to see some big name presenters like Dr. Marty Becker, “America’s Veterinarian,” and Christopher Knight…yeah, that’s right…Peter Brady from the Brady Bunch!  Big kudos to CWA president, Deb Barnes, and the rest of the team that organized this event. I know it wasn’t an easy feat…kind of like herding cats. I’m sure there were glitches and issues…but I didn’t notice. And finally, CONGRATULATIONS to all the Muse Medallion and Special Award winners!
