A Bright Side

Mom…can’t you take this thing off of me?

Sorry, Ernie. No can do. Whenever I take it off and turn my back for just a second, you start licking.

I promise…I won’t lick.

As much as it pains me to see you wearing that collar, I just can’t trust you, Ernie. That area needs to heal…and if you’re licking it, it won’t.

Ernie wearing soft e-collar

But I can’t eat with this thing on. I’m gonna starve!

Now, Ernie…you know I’ve been taking it off so you can eat. You’re not going to starve. Besides, you should be happy that you get to wear this donut e-collar rather than the plastic cone you had to wear last time this happened.

Ugh! I remember! That plastic thing was the pits! I never want to wear that again. At least this thing is softer and I can use it as a pillow.

Well…there you go, Ernie. A bright side to wearing it. You have your very own pillow.

You’re not making me feel any better, mom.

Island Cat Mom here. Ernie is doing okay despite having to wear the evil “donut.” He goes to the vet for a recheck in a couple of days. Hopefully he’ll be able to stop wearing the collar after that. He and I both thank you for the purrs, prayers and good thoughts.

  4. Aw, we’re sorry you have to go through this, but your mom does know what’s best. We think you should milk it for getting extra treats!

  5. Just a few more days Ernie…hang in there! Hope the recheck goes well.

  6. Ernie you are such a brave mancat!! Better to wear it now so the PITT can heal and you won’t have to have a do over
    Hugs Cecilia

  7. You can eat with that collar thing. Be a brave mancat. I did 2 it twice after the 2nd and 3rd spay operations. ~ AYLA

  8. Purrs and prayers you heal up nicely and pass the recheck. Ernie you do look cute in your blue donut!

  9. I’ve never had to wear one, but both the collar of shame and the dreaded donut look annoying. Hang in there Ernie. Hopefully in a few days you’ll be released from the donut trap.

  10. Ernie, I must say that the blue of the donut frames your handsome face nicely!
Paws are crossed that the donut comes off in a few days, and stays off.

  11. Oh Ernie, you poor thing. The good news is that you can use it as a pillow. You all have a great day.

  12. Gosh Ernie – I know it must be a pain but you just have to hang in there a few more days – if you’ve been good and not messed around with your “AREA” then maybe the portable pillow will be no more (I bet you will miss it……just a little!).

    BE BRAVE…….Hugs, Teddy

  13. That donut e-collar looks so much more stylish and comfy the plastic cone, Ernie. I hope you get better soon.

  14. A built-in pillow doesn’t sound too bad at all, Ernie. We still sure do hope you’re all healed up very soon, though. Purrs and prayers to you!

  17. No one likes those things, but they are necessary. I know your mom is doing everything she needs to make sure you heal properly.

Have a purrfect day and week. My best to your peeps. ♥

  18. Hoping you get good news at the recheck Ernie!

  19. Ernie, My good man! I was dragged kicking and screaming to the vet this a.m. for a recheck of my thyroid med levels and an evil exam in which they stole my precious pee and bloods, too. I should charge THEM! And that witch of a pretty lady vet wants me to eat that boring tasteless kidney diet food. Man, this getting old thing is a steaming pile of……well, YOU know what, don’t you?! I hope you get that atrocious thing off your handsome neck very soon!

  20. See, I told you it was a good pillow…though I do hope the vet says you can take it off when you see him later.
    Hang in there Erne!

  21. There’s always a good in a bad, Ernie and in a way you’re very lucky to have your own pillow always around 😀 Healing Pawkisses for a Heathy Day 🙂 <3

  22. As long as you are getting your treats Ernie, we’re sure you can power through a couple more days with that darn thing hanging around. Purrs!

  31. I hate to say it Ernie but you do look good in blue. I do hope you get it off soon my friend.

  32. Purrs that it’s gone for good very soon, sweet boy!

  33. But Ernie, you have your own built in pillow with you at all times. And it looks so cute on you.

  34. You look better today, Ernie! We just know you’ll be done with that annoying donut soon! ♥

  35. That does look more comfy than a cone, I guess.

  36. I know this is no fun, Ernie. But soon you’ll be free of that donut.

  37. Poor guy. I didn’t have trouble eating but I sure found having that thing on hard to snooze right!

    ~El.

  38. oh poor little guy!! But it is very stylish at least!

  39. Sending healing purrz that you heal quickly. TW found when she gives me a certain kibble which just happens to be my current fave, I start licking back there. She won’t give it to me no more cos she says I’m prolly allergic.

  40. Poor Ernie. I hope he is able to stop wearing the donut after the next checkup.

  41. Do they make those for humans? Asking for a friend …

  42. It’s the bright side for sure. The donut must be so much comfier than the plastic one. But of course, I hope you can get rid of it soon, Ernie. Purrs to you xo

  43. Awww, Ernie. We know your mom won’t let you starve.
