Hey Ernie…it’s Memorial Day. The unofficial start of summer! Yay!
Yep…and the official start of barbecue season, Wally.
Oh boy. Here we go again with the barbecue. Okay, Ernie…I’ll play along. So if you could have anything barbecued, what would you have?
How ‘bout that squirrel out there, Wally?
Really? You want barbecued squirrel? That doesn’t sound very appetizing. Have you ever had squirrel before, Ernie? I bet you wouldn’t like it.
You’re probably right, Wally. And I don’t think I could ever convince the mom to catch one to barbecue. I guess I’ll stick with chicken.
Let’s forget about barbecuing, Ernie, and remember what this day is really all about. Memorial Day is a day we remember and pay tribute to all the brave men and women that gave their lives protecting our country so we can be free. And it’s a day to remember loved ones who are no longer with us…both human and those with fur.
So whatever you’re doing today to celebrate this holiday…having a picnic, going to the beach, hanging out with friends…or yeah, even eating barbecue…but please, no squirrel…take some time to remember those who are no longer with us.
Happy Memorial Day!
