Happy Memorial Day

Hey guys. Usually on Memorial Day all I can think about is barbecue because…you know…it is the official start of barbecue season. But that’s not what Memorial Day is all about. Seriously, Memorial Day is a day we remember and honor the brave men and women that gave their lives protecting our country so we can be free. And it’s a day to remember loved ones who have left us…both human and those with fur. So whatever you’re doing today to celebrate this holiday…having a picnic, going to the beach, hanging out with friends or just enjoying the day…take some time to remember those brave men and women and those who are no longer with us.

Happy Barbecue Day! Rats! I  just couldn’t make it through that speech without thinking of barbecue! C’mon…we can honor and remember with a little barbecue, can’t we??

Petcretary is a Canadian now living here in the USA past 30 years. This isn’t a holiday there, and we seem to do this on Remembrance Day in November, sort of combining both the sacrificial heroes and the living veterans. Petcretary has oft worked with veterans in her jobs in healthcare. Those men and not a few women are a precious endearing group, and they all have stories to tell…the good the bad and the ugly…they for sure deserve our time and thanks, big thanks. Petcretay could about write a book of the many memoirs she has heard from these peeps…and she could shed tears at some of her own memories of them too.

Some of her uncles served in military positions in WW11, and in other wars too. Some were in the Underground, all of them in Dutch service. Her Dad was a bit young…but he falsified his papers so he would not be picked up by the Germans…and because his family said one son in active duty was enough, and another in the underground. Our Oma’s family also had uncles serving in various ways. When you go and see the cemeteries in Europe for the military of Canada and US service men it is moving to say the least. We live near Fort Custer, Michigan and right now there are thousands of flags placed on the graves there, what a sight. Our unfurbros used to help with placing them when they were in Middle and Highschool.

  27. Yes, barbeque helps all of our memories surface because we love to celebrate the brave women and men who fight for our freedom. Let us know they will not have to do that again….
