Hey Ernie…did you notice when the mom came home the other day…she smelled really strange.  She smelled like…dare I say it…STRANGE CAT!

Yeah, Wally…I smelled it right away.  I wonder what’s going on.

I’ll tell you what’s going on, boys.

Oh, hi mom.  So why have you been smelling like strange cat lately?

I started volunteering once a week at the local shelter to help out in the cat room.  I’m feeding the cats and cleaning their cages.

Y’mean the cats are in cages?  Isn’t that sad?

Well, yes, Wally, I don’t like seeing them in cages…but with volunteers like me, the cats get lots of attention.  And being in the shelter is temporary until they find homes of their own.  The shelter people work very hard trying to find homes for all the cats.

I was in a shelter and it was kinda scary.  I wish they’d all find homes real soon.

Me too, Ernie…me too.  Until they do, I want to do what I can to help them be more comfortable in the shelter.

Mom, we’re okay with you helping out with the shelter cats…and we won’t complain when you come home smelling like them.

Thanks, boys…I’m glad I have your approval.  😉
