Hey Wally!  Did you see?
The hummingbirds have been hanging around the feeder more.

Yeah Ernie.  It’s that time of year again.
The hummers are fueling up
before they make their long trip down south.

I watched this one on our feeder…

It sat there for the longest time…
drinking and sitting…sitting and drinking.

Afterwards, it went and sat on the patio chair nearby.
I think it’s standing guard…
making sure other hummers didn’t try to use the feeder, too.

Hummers can be real territorial.
I watched this one chase other hummers away from the feeder.
Just like me, hummers aren’t much into sharing.

Whatchoo looking at??

Hey, hummer!  We’ll keep the feeder filled.
So go ahead…drink up!
You’ve got a long trip ahead of you.
We hope you have a safe flight.

(Sorry ’bout the quality of these pictures.
The mom took them through the window
’cause she didn’t want to scare the hummer away.)

  7. Color my jealous! I never get to see any hummers, maybe because we don’t put out a feeder…but still, they really are nifty little critters to watch.

  8. What great birdie TV boys – were you chittering?
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  9. Bravo bravo on the great Hummingbird photos…they are 100% better than the one’s mom takes. She has to stand on our deck then when she goes out there they scatter. Please tell them we have lots of food here waiting for their trip south.
    Hugs madi your bfff

  10. Happy bird TV! Wow, didn’t think Hummers stopped long enough to get their photo taken! Wishing them all a safe journey south!

  11. Mommy keeps fresh nectar in ours too. Glad you don’t use artificial color in the nectar. 🙂 I get all excited watching them, and I low crawl to the window. That is, as your mommy knows, a girl RubyThroated hummingbird.
Our feeder has a girl on it too. Always ready to sun someone else off. The boys have already gone by and large and the girls are the last to leave. At least here in TN. Mom has to keep the feeder filled (she makes the nectar) till the end of October at least.

  12. Nice Birdie TV!
    Have a nice week too!

  13. Great photos being that they were through the window. Those little suckers are really mean to one another.

Hey Ernie! Did you know you are about to be attacked by a snake in the first picture?

  34. It’s wonderful that you feed the hummingbirds! They look nice and plump and ready for their long journey 🙂

the critters in the cottage xo

  35. That hummer dude looks like he’s gonna explode!

  36. Lovely Hummer pics.
We have not seen any for the past week. We think ours have left.
Maybe they will stop at your feeder 🙂
    Purrs Georgia and Julie,
    Treasure and JJ

  37. What a great channel on your cat TV! We hope that hummer gets all fueled up for his trip so he’ll be back again next year.

  38. Mum has been keeping our hummer feeders filled too. We have seen them shooing others away. Mum set up another feeder.

  39. Whoa! I once heard TW say that she had a boyfriend who nicknamed her Hummingbird only I don’t think it was a compliment. Heh heh. Great view you got there.

  40. That sugar water is like Hi-test fuel! Mommy made up a new batch today…we are starting to see migrants at our feeder–much to the “permanents” dismay.

  41. You are so lucky to have hummers. We had two last year that came to the feeder exactly once that we know of. This year we had one visit one time. Mom is moving the feeder next year to see if we have better luck. Wally, you seem totally indifferent to this show. How come? XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  42. Da hummer looks tasty, just sayin. 🙂

  43. I love watching the hummers. That one looks like a girl (no bright colors) so I’m surprised it’s the territorial one. In my yard, it’s a certain boy hummer who defends the feeder against all others. Too bad your hummers fly south and your bird t.v. goes away until spring. I get hummer t.v. all year long.

  44. Great pics! We will miss these little guys when they move South.
Safe travels, our fine feathered furriends.

  45. What a coincidence that we both wrote about hummers today! Great pictures and what a lovely view you guys have.

  46. We’ve never seen hummers ! It’s so small ! Just to know, is it yummy ? Purrs

  47. We love our hummers, too! This time of year, they get so territorial, and dodge and fight. I’ve even heard their little beaks clacking–like a tiny and adorable sword fight–in mid air.

Purrs (and wags) from Life with Dogs and Cats.

  48. Those are great photos! That hummer looks pretty chubby….must be from hogging that feeder, as well as storing up for the long trip south!

  49. wow you have great bird tv action going on in your house. may we join you sometimes?

btw ernie our mom is laughing hysterically upon seeing da box in your kitty tree and you’re on it.

  50. We love watching our Hummers! We dont even try to catch them. Well, trying to catch them is utterly futile, so we are very practical about it.

  51. That’s really cool! They so rarely seem to land, so it’s neat that you got pics of them perched like that. 🙂

  52. They are so fun to watch – I get some in the bushes outside my office and can sit and watch and watch. I haven’t noticed them being territorial, but I’ll watch for that.

  53. Cats have good eyes to be able to see these little birds from afar. One of the many great things about cats 🙂

  54. Great shots of the hummer! We didn’t have any come around this year, for some reason.

  55. Hummingbirds are so beautiful! We’ve been seeing a lot of them too. You got some cool shots there!

  56. Doods! That’s some impressive photo-ing of those hummers!!!

  57. Wow, Hummer TV, that’s really special, love the pics!

  58. That is when I know winter is truly coming. When the hummers start really filling up and then they disappear. Hope you enjoy your hummer TV guys!
