Hey!  Can you guys see what I see?

IMG_1229w

Yep, it’s Mr. Hummer!  Sorry ’bout the crummy picture.  The mom took it through the window so she wouldn’t scare him away.

The mom got this new feeder ‘cuz the bees were taking over our old one.  And bees and hummingbirds just don’t mix.  You should see them fight!

This feeder is supposed to be bug-proof.  So far, the bees are leaving it alone.  And the hummers like it.  Or at least this guy does.  I’ve seen him chase off all the other hummers that come looking for a drink.  I guess he’s not into sharing.  I can relate to that.

I like to sit here and talk to Mr. Hummer…but he’s not much of a conversationalist.  I say “Hey, Mr. Hummer…cat got your tongue?”  Heheheh.  I wish.  But he just sits and stares at me.

He’s still fun to watch…even if he doesn’t have much to say.

  1. How rude of Mr Hummer not to chat with you Wally.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  2. You know what they say about the birds and the bees.

  3. That is the very type we have here! I love it and it’s easy to clean. So easy! Not like the other type. There is also an any guard you can buy if anys become a problem. xxoo

  4. You have the best tv stations on your island, Wally!

  5. Those hummers are really fun to watch especially when they chase the other ones off. I love how they sometimes sit in a tree, waiting their turns. Have a great day and Wally don’t let them out of your sight.

  6. Now that is quite the TV and no doubt keeps the butt wiggling!

  7. WALLY EXCELLENT PHOTOS OF MY MOM’S 2ND FAVORITE CRITTER (FIRST BEING ME). SEPTEMBER MARKS THE BEGINNING OF MOM RECORDING DAILY HUMMER SIGHTINGS..AS THEY WILL BE LEAVING SOON. SHE KEEPS RECORDS OF THE DAY THE ARRIVE AND THE DAY THE LEAVE.
    HUGS MADI YOUR BFFF

  8. Wow, you have terrific bird tv! In that first pic, what came to mind for a split second was plastic UFO. LOL. Then the human realized it was a feeder.

And YES she needs glasses, she just has been too lazy to make the eye appt!

  9. That feeder looks like the one we have…our Hummers like it too! Our Hummer likes to ‘buzz’ Auntie when she is out side working in the yard…

  10. Wally you have a beautiful backyard and lovely Birdie TV. Mom saw a NatGeo special on hummers and she was shocked to see how aggressive they are about their food sources. It was really a fascinating looking and humming birds.

  11. Wally, you look so cute intently staring at that hummer. Those are great pictures. It’s fun talking to the birds, isn’t it?

  12. What a great set of photos, great view.

  13. I can’t see my hummer feeder but they sit on the hibiscus right by my super sized bird TV glass door

  14. how cool….that might be the ultimate bird tv

  15. What a view! Our grandpawrents had feeders for hummers. Hummers are very territorial and scrappy! The human says nothing is cuter than a tiny hummer nest with babies 🙂

  16. Oh what a fun bird to watch! I need more birds around the house! I can’t wait until our plants actually start growing and drawing birds!

  17. Those hummers can give you a headache if you stare at them too long!

  18. what a great feeder and Mr.Hummer is so cute!!

  19. We’re giggling at the thought of the bees and the hummers fighting.

  20. Looks like Mr. Hummer was just ignoring you all together sweet Wally, now that is just rude. Mumsy likes the pictures and she sends kudos to your mom for getting a shot of that hummer being still and you looking so cute watching him. Hugs and nose kisses

  21. I wonder if it is ant proof! That is the problem here – the ants get into the hummingbird feeder, which is icky!

  22. dood…thiz iza burd post……

  23. He is so tiny, hs is only a treat!

  24. We haven’t seen even one hummer this year at our feeder. Don’t know why, but they didnt’ stop by.

  25. That’s some serious fun, Wally, even if Mr. Hummer isn’t all that friendly!

  26. OMC, what an amazing bird TV channel! We don’t have that channel at all.

  27. You get the best channels on your Bird TV.

  28. Wally, dood, do you chatter/chitter at him? Maxie does, which our mom finds funny since he’s the deaf one in the fambly. MOL!

  29. That’s the purrfect spot for that hummer although it could be just a tad over to the right a bit.

  30. Hummers remind me so much of my mom! She loved them, along with their squeaky sounds, beauty and belligerent ways. Her favorite was “Peewee”, the smallest of them all.

  31. hee hee! we like the Wally’s eye view pictures 🙂 We don’t have a hummer feeder on account of ants but we have planted flowers to attract them. The one(s) that visit our yard is/are VERY talkative – we’re surprised such little birds can have such a big chirp! Enjoy the feeder and “hummer channel” 🙂

  32. Heh heh you can tell I live in the city. I thought the feeder was a UFO.

  33. We like our hummer’s too, but the bees seem to stay away from our feeder. We have seen one hummer chase away others, but we know more than one must feed as mum goes through a lot of sugar water.

  34. He’s hardly big enough to be a good mouthful. Bah–what a waste.

  35. Hummers are fun entertainment! I have a feeder outside my window and one hummer defends it. So mom hung another feeder across the yard. We don’t get bees at our feeder but we get wasps. They’re nasty little buggers.

  36. Thinking ‘hmm that looks tasty…’

    lol

  37. That’s very cool to watch Mr. Hummer like that, Wally! Yay for the new feeder working and no bees!

  38. Maybe you need to get closer so he can REALLY hear you…

  39. That looks like a great bird channel!

    Purrs,
    The Chans

  40. We wish we got hummers were we lived. Instead we’ve got fat woodpigeon and red kites.

  41. WE GUESSED it was a hummer. It was just that turn of yer neck. Its like ours. We love watchin them too.

  42. Sorry he isn’t a better conversationalist…

  43. Oh how neat, you have hummers coming to see you! We have some visiting from time to time, but not very often. Sounds like you can be really good friends, sharing the desire to not share 🙂

  44. Oh way cool Wally – a hummer! We didn’t know there was a feeder that bugs would stay away from….that’s why we didn’t keep our feeder because the bees and wasps took over! Keep an eye on the prize Wally…..no doubt that guy’s keeping one eye on YOU too. Hee Hee

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  45. I think your mom took an EXCELLENT picture!

In the first one, of course, I thought you were lookin’ at flyin’ saucer but that’s just ’cause I have been thinkin’ a lot lately of the space-time continuum and astronauts.

But the second picture…. STUNNING! Your friend the hummer even sat still and posed. He’s a quiet one, you say? Let him get a little more nectar in him and he might become a little more talkative.

    Purrs,
    Nissy

  46. Oh Wally…you crack us up.
    “Cat got your tongue…” MOL!!!

  47. Wally, that hummingbird looks very plump compared to the hummingbirds we see here. He just may be waiting for you to grab him and bake him in a pie. See if you can get to him somehow 🙂

the critters in the cottage xo

  48. You’ve got a perfect view of that hummer. Glad you got a new one. Bees are no fun. That’s for sure.

    Hugs Bugsy and Knuckles

  49. Such a pretty bird! We just went out today to pick out a hummingbird feeder since our new home has plenty of them!

  50. That was so nice of your mom to get that new feeder for the hummers, Wally! We hope that little guy talks back at you real soon. 🙂

  51. Wally, you are very lucky that Mr. Hummer sits still so a photo can be taken. Our humans had tried for years to get hummers to come to our house. It finally happened this summer with two different ones. We’d never seen so much excitement. We don’t get it ’cause we have heaps and heaps of birdies to watch. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  52. Mr Hummer looks really fascinating. Have fun!
