It’s National Hairball Awareness Day!
Hairballs are not good for us kitties. That’s why we’re once again teaming up with Romeo the Cat and the FURminator people to celebrate National Hairball Awareness Day and share information on how to prevent getting hairballs.
Here’s five tips from the FURminator people on how to prevent hairballs. I know I’ve told you these before, but they’re worth repeating.
1. Regular Grooming: Ask your human to groom you regularly by using a grooming tool like the FURminator deLuxe deShedding Tool, which reduces shedding by nearly 90%.
2. Home Remedies: Ask for a little canned pumpkin mixed in with your stinky goodness once or twice a week. The fiber in the pumpkin can help move any hair clogs through your system.
3. Stay Hydrated: Make sure you drink lots of water. Tell your human to put several water bowls throughout the house. Water helps flush out the hair before it has time to clump in your stomach.
4. A New Menu: There are several specially formulated cat foods that aid in the fight against hairballs. You might want to ask your human to get you some. But of course, make sure your human asks your v-e-t before changing your diet drastically.
5. Ask Your Vet: If you have chronic hairball problems, have your human ask your v-e-t to recommend a laxative supplement to help prevent ingested hairs from forming hairballs. The lady with the yellow hair gives me some yummy tasting stuff in a tube a couple of times a week so I don’t get clogged up with hairballs.
I hope these tips help you in your fight against hairballs!
Now, to celebrate National Hairball Awareness Day, we’re having a giveaway! Do you wanna win your very own FURminator deShedding Tool? What wonderful suggestions! Sweet Praline had all types of problems with hairballs. We haven’t had any yet, but we’re still kittens. Please enter us in the contest to win a FURminator.

Very very good information, Zoey. Mommy is glad we are all short furred but even so, we do get a good dose of FURminating every now and then which help remove all those shedding fur. We only have one FURminator and with the 7 of us (including Tutu), we sure could do with an extra FURminator! So yes, we would like to be entered into the draw, please.
Mommy cooks for us and she makes sure she adds fresh pumpkin (with the seeds) to the stew to keep our digestive system healthy. 🙂
Please enter me in the contest. If I win, will pass it on to another kitty friend who really needs it. I have one and just love it.
Please enter us. We have many hairy cats here. Those are some great suggestions. We need to do all of them. Will the cats eat the pumpkin?? Will have to try that. Have a great week end.
Those furballs in the tummy are no fun at all! We have a Furminator so we don’t need to be entered! Howdy pretty Zoey!!!!
My cat, Thunder, would love a furminator. Another suggestion from Thunder, a house cat. He loves when I go outside each morning and pick him some grass to eat.
we are very anti-hairball in our house.
I’ve never known a cat – or a peep – who liked a hairball. The best kind of hairballs are the ones that never happen, I think.
good information – I have a cat with long hair – it certainly is what you wrote to me to be useful – I greet :))
Hi kitties,
I am trying to find a home for a very sweet, older cat. You can read all about him on my post today.
Your pal, Pip
Mowzers, Zoey! You make a great Furminator model, you do! We agree wif Nerissa – the best hairball is the one that never happens! We’d love to enter – thanks!
THose are good points. We do not get hairballs but Mac (RIP) did!
Hannah here – Mum gives me some katalax on my paw a couple of times a week and that seems to keep me clear of hairballs. Of course Lucy laughs cos she doesn’t ever seem to get any but she doesn’t have such a thick coat of course!! We are both brushed regularly – Hannah doesn’t like the furminator but she loves to be zoomed!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
We would love to win the furminator. Sassy is one hairy beast!!
We had never heard about the Pumpkin remedy! How cool is that!!
Congratz to Catsperella and Katy Purry!
We loved your furry post today : )
xo Katie & Glogirly
We get laxatone and regular groomings…right now we’re shedding BOATLOADS of fur and Mommy is busy combing us…purrrrrrrr.
Oh, and we’d love to enter!
Like Mario, I have one but know a couple of furrends who would benefit from having one so I’d pass it along if I won. I eat Luna Tuna with pumpkin soup every day because I don’t drink water despite having 4 water dishes throughout the house. TW’s Nicky used to love the taste of the Laxatone. He thought if was dessert.
Zoey you are one smart, informed lady cat!!
I just love being brushed and I rarely have hairballs.
Hugs Madi
You know a lot about furballs. I wonder if any of those will work on getting rid of Ichiro
Good advice from my leading lady! I hope Zoey will pick
me as the winner! Love, Buddy the Cat
Very good advice!! Austin hacks, but never seen an actual hairball in the house. I think he eats grass and does it outside!!
Our human said to enter our names. She thinks we both could use one. I won’t stand still long enough to use it on me much, though–heh, heh!
Leo has the most problems with hairballs. We think it is because he was an outdoor cat exclusivley for thirteen years! and he has had to shed ALOT of fur to acclimatize to being an indoor only cat! We brush him every day to help him.
Have a great weekend all 🙂
the critters in The Cottage xo
Thank you for the wonderful information. Pleas enter us in the contest, with 5 cats it would really come in handy.
We already have a Furminator. We just came by to support your post for NHAD. It was a fun contest.
Yes, I would love a Furminator!! Thanks fur the hairball prevention tips. =^..^=
Wow, Katy Purry is pretty impressive!!!
Yes, please enter us in the contest for the Furninator. We usually leave our hairballs where mom is sure to – step on – we mean find them.
I am seeing lots of FUR all over the internet today!
That Katie Purry is purrty darn cute! Those are all great tips to help get rid of hairballs. I’ve never had a hairball, ever, but my sisfur Angel has. We both get FURminated about once every month since we hate it. Since we have one we don’t need to be entered in your giveaway.
Great tips! We LOVE the FURminator and had fun participating in this contest with you!
Great tips! Leo isnt fond of being brushed, but we think it’s because we havent found a good brush yet. Star tollerates it for a while.
Thanks for the MEOW out!! I hope you guys (and ladies) are having a fabulous and fur free National Hairball Awareness Day! xo
Good information, Zoey! even with our short furs we sometimes get hairballs. We need to get our mom to give us some pumpkin! Have a great weekend!
Pip, smidgen, Minnie, Hollie
OH my dear..I want one and I need one desperatly. I keep horking these things up and mommy says 50 green papers is a lot.
Yes yes yes, YES I *DO* wants a Furminator and my Human is too cheep to buy me one (well, I do like the brushies, but a FURMINATOR? Well, that’s the Gold Standard, isn’t it?!?)
We are HUGE believers in pumpkin!!! We started using that ever since Cody had his “poop” (or the lack thereof) incident! lol
Also…he eats Royal Canin Rabbit which has been hugely helpful in the prevention of his hairballs.
Great review but gotta admit your kitty with his face in the furminator made me a tad nervous MOL!!!!
Don’t enter us because we obviously have a furminator of our own which we love!
Please count me in for this wonderful tool!! I have four furballs that could use some…de-furring!
I would love to win.
2dogs5catscrew@att.net
Zoey, you make a very furry model for the furminator! Those are all good ideas. While my furs are too fine and thin for it, we know several rescues around here that could use a furminator. So enter us, please.
Thank you for sharing these important hairball remedies!!! What a cute picture! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug
Great hairball suggestions. Yes, we’d like to win if it’s not too late.
pawhugs, Max
We would love to win the furminator! Mom is constantly combing/brushing us and she rarely sees any hairballs here.
Two short haired hairy babies here. I didn’t know about pumpkin! I’ll have to pass that tip on to my family – they have lots of hairball issues.
Would love to be entered in the drawing! Thanks!
Great hairball prevention tips, Zoey! Good thing Moosey doesn’t get hairballs, because he does not like being brushed.
I get brushed every day and furminated once a week. I never had a hairball until last night, so Mom gave me a really good brushing today. Thanks for all the good tips.
Herman
Those Furminator products are great!
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
I have several rescue kitties and could really use the FURminator.
