Ernie SureFlap LogoHi guys. Ernie here. I have a confession to make. I’m a slow-eater. I don’t eat all my food at one sitting and usually come back several times over the course of a couple of hours to eat. Sometimes it may take me all day to finish my meal. And since I eat wet food most of the time, this means my food gets dried out and kinda gross looking. Not very appetizing, I have to admit. There are times I don’t even finish all my food because it looks and tastes bad from sitting out. Which means the food gets thrown out. Big waste, the mom says.

So when we had the opportunity to try the SureFeed® Sealed Pet Bowl from SureFlap®, we thought this would be the purrfect solution for a slow-eater like me.

What’s a SureFeed® Sealed Pet Bowl?

The SureFeed® is a sealed pet food bowl where the lid automatically opens when your pet approaches giving your pet access to the food at any time. When the pet is finished eating and walks away, the lid closes and seals in freshness and odors…and keeps the bugs out, too.  The SureFeed® is not microchip or collar tag operated…it runs on 4 C batteries (not included)…so it opens for any pet.

how the Surefeed Sealed Pet Bowl works

Our Experience with the SureFeed® Sealed Pet Bowl

Even though it’s whisper-quiet, I was a little hesitant at first about approaching the SureFeed® when the lid opened. But once I realized there was food in the bowl, I started chowing down. There’s a training mode setting that you might want to start with to help your pet become accustomed to the lid opening and closing, ‘specially if you have a timid cat.

The bowl is shallow and wide but a good size, holding about 1½ cups of food. It’s made of plastic…we would prefer that it was either ceramic or stainless steel…and it has a built-in seal on the top edge to keep the food fresh when the lid is closed. Both the bowl and the lid can be removed for cleaning, but make sure you hand wash only…they should not be put in the dishwasher. The SureFeed® comes with a gray bowl but you can order different colored ones like blue, green or pink…and there’s even a split bowl version.

The SureFeed® is not just for cats either. It works great with small dogs as well.

SureFeed Sealed Pet Bowl Features

Here’s a short video of me eating from the SureFeed® Sealed Pet Bowl. If you watch ‘til the end, you’ll see the lid close.

Y’know…I did go back and I finished my food. And I can say that the SureFeed® Sealed Pet Bowl really helped to keep the food from drying out…even hours later…which meant less waste.

If you’ve got a slow-eater in your house like me, the SureFeed® Sealed Pet Bowl could be the ideal feeding solution. You can buy the SureFeed® on Amazon.com or from the SureFlap® website.

  1. Everyone eats very fast in this house. Rosie eats gobbles her food down and what she doesn’t finish, Ruby takes care of (she is not supposed to this). I now have to feed them in separate rooms to prevent this. Rosie also sometimes tries to finish Ruby’s food. We have very confused pets. LOL

  2. Thunder is the king of slow eater’s! He picks at his food all day long. I continually have to get more food from the fridge so it is fresh–but that doesn’t work if I’m not home. This might be just the thing we need.

  3. Very cool! Great review!

  4. we don’t have any “slow eaters” though we mostly graze. mom is thinking this would be great for kittens or for Allie our feral girl to keep bugs out

  5. What a great idea.

  6. I love it and we all know cats are drawn in by fresh scents!
    Hugs
    Magi your bffff

  7. I’m a slow eater too but Isabella is not so that flap wouldn’t keep her from eating my foods when I walk away. I just get little meals throughout the day when she’s sleeping. We’re glad that works to keep your foods fresh though!

  8. My dogs eat quickly, but my cats are slower eaters. I think this would be especially perfect for my Moko, who loves her canned food, but doesn’t always eat it immediately. Eat cat has their own place for their food dishes, so I could put this at Moko’s place for her.

  9. Ernie, you handsome mancat! Action video of Ernie…LOVE IT! Thanks for the product review!

  10. That is pretty cool, but I have NO trouble eating my food. Still it’s great for other kitties.

  11. I am a very slow eater – Mom thinks this thing MIGHT work for me – now that I can’t hear (!) any sound it makes won’t freak me out (which it would have done if I can hear). Usually Mom has to add more water to my wet stuff to get me to keep eating and this would keep it from drying out…..cool idea!

    Hugs, Sammy

  12. We’re all grazers at our house, so we have the same problem of wet food getting dry and yucky. I wonder how it would work to have one bowl for all three of us? I think we’d need three bowls.

  13. This is an interesting product. I wish it could be programmed to only open for a specific cat. Rufus wants to eat everything in sight whether it’s in his dish or Mickey’s!
We’d like to give it a try though.
    Thanks!

    • SureFlap does have an automatic bowl that will open only for a specific cat. It comes with a microchipped tag that the cat wears and the bowl is programmed to only read that microchip. You can find out more about it on the SureFlap website.

  14. what a cool looking dish. Thompson has become a slow eater in our house but I can’t leave his food out because Theo would end up weighing 5,000 pounds in a month. I put Thompson’s food away and then when he meows for it I make it available to him much to the chagrin of Theo.

  15. Yes, I’m a slow-eater.

  16. My Snowball is a slow eater and Sammy tried to steal her food, this would be great to stop him.

  17. Dat’s great Ernie. We’re both slow eaters too, and it frustrates mommy cuz like your mommy she hates to throw out food. She says, “we’re not made of money girls”. Do you get told dat too? Anyways, we’re enterin’ and hopefully we can win. Glad you’ll be eatin’ furesh food from now on.

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

  18. no one in this household does, but I know someone who could use this

  19. OH goodness we are all slow eaters this would work perfectly for us!

  20. We are both slow eaters, us kitties that is… But before he was really ill, Minko was awfully slow…
    MJF is a gobbler, MOL!
Thanks for a chance to try out a bowl like this ourselves!

  21. I’m a little bit of both. I scarf food down at the very beginning and then graze on the remains overnight.

  22. Mudpie just won one of those! We’re excited to try it out 🙂

  23. That look s like a furry cool feeder! Especially the microchip version when somekitty tries to bully another poor kitty into giving up his portion. ~ Faraday “Slim” Richman (you know who I’m talking about ALLIE!)

  24. Great review, Ernie! You and Sophie could be two peas in a pod with the way you eat!

  25. I’m a slow eater. Plus I have several food hog fur sibs who will swoop in and eat my noms when I paws to swallow. I sure could use one of these automatic dishes. Hey Mom! Chrispmouse is coming! Guess what I want?

  26. Ernie, we think that is the coolest thing! Our mom wishes she *did* have slow eaters but we are all vacuums.

And dude–did we see a ::shudder:: PEA in that dinner??? Do we need to call the ASPCA or something?

  27. When it comes to canned food, there are no slow eaters in this house. This looks like a very good product for slow eaters. How nice that your food will now be a lot fresher!

  28. That really is quite interesting but I don’t think 2 of my sisters would go near it MOL!

  29. Nice review but I had to laugh….we have NO SLOW EATERS around here! Good luck to all who enter!

  30. Binga is our slow eater – only problem, Boodie would probably get into the feeder and eat Binga’s food!

  31. I’m a slow eater but I object to their thinking. I LIKE a nice crust on my food. Sometimes I won’t eat until it has one. Of course, TW tries to grab the dish before I get to it.

  32. This is such a neat product. Our Zoe is a slow eater. But Gracie is a fast eater, and smart. Ha.

  33. That sounds a great product!

  34. My cat is the opposite – he’s a really fast eater! I use a food dispenser ball to try to make him eat slower, but for canned food there’s no solution. He’s just gobbles everything in a few seconds 🙂

  35. I’m not from the US, but it really is a great giveaway. Good luck to the participants.

  36. Not really a slow eater – I probably could stand to slow down some

  37. That sounds like a feeder that would be useful for some kitties!

  38. That is a wonderful idea!!! We are a slow-eater too. Thanks for sharing!!!!!

  39. We just got one of these to try and Lexy loves it! Great review!

  40. We eat all the food all the time. There is no such thing as uneaten food here. TBT weighs us every few days to make sure we don’t lose weight He wouldn’t even mind if we gained some. Some days he practically stuuffs us with food. But Marley stays at 12.5 pounds, Iza stays at 10.5 pounds, and Ayla stays at 7 pounds. More or less doesn’t seem to matter.

  41. i am a slow eater, but my pets are fast, except for the baby, now 6, she eats slow. the middle child is a very fast eater, she finishes first even though she gets fed last.

  42. No no one is here (animals and humans) hahahahahaha

  43. Very fast eaters here!

  44. Samantha doesn’t usually finish her food in one sitting. She gets wet in the morning and dry in the evening, but she usually visits her bowl at least a couple of times or more for both sittings. This is a really cool idea!

  45. One is a slow eater and the other gobbles it down.

  46. We have needed – and wanted – one of these for a long, long time! It would really help us regulate Lita’s diet while allowing Carmine to eat all that he wants. 🙂

  47. I wish my kitties didn’t have such trouble with chin acne. This looks like such an awesome concept, but my kids just can’t handle things make of plastic.

  48. Ernie we just love your post today and the new feeder looks brilliant, thanks so much fur sharing!
